Happy Birthday Round Beeping Thing.

That's right, the Telstar-One satellite was launched on June 10 back in 1962. So let's all raise a glass in toast to a Round Beeping Thing, and celebrate what could be in store for us in the future and forget for just one day what probably will be our future with a little help from Mr. Joe Meek and The Tornados.

You knew I'd show up to say it was July 10, 1962, right? It's like saying "Candyman" in front of a mirror five times, but it only results in me pedantically correcting your blog post.

And thank you, by the way. It's always gratifying to see someone enabling one of your obsessions. Telstar, as a song, a satellite, and a symbol, means a great deal to me. Thanks for commemorating its anniversary.

It sounds like hope, doesn't it?

You mean the internet lied?!?

Glad to do it, and I'll adjust that accordingly.

And yes, yes it does.

It sounds like hope that at the dawn of the new technological age, people might just get it right and *communicate*, not just talk.
